Dian Hong is Yunnan's celebrated black tea, and Golden Buds (Jin Ya) is its softest grade — made almost entirely from plump single buds of the Fengqing broad-leaf cultivar. The dry tea is a glossy gold, thick with fine down; in the cup it shows a vivid golden ring and releases honeyed malt with a gentle sweet-potato warmth. The texture is fine, smooth and naturally sweet, which makes it one of the easiest black teas to love.
Use about 4g at 90–95°C; gongfu-style steep ~20 seconds for many rounds, or infuse 3 minutes in a mug. The buds forgive hotter water better than most black teas.
A gentle, crowd-pleasing introduction to the sweetness of good black tea.
