This ripe (shou) pu-erh is made from broad-leaf material grown in high-elevation gardens around Menghai, in Xishuangbanna, and is finished with the traditional wet-piling fermentation that defines ripe pu-erh, followed by years of dry storage in Kunming. The cake is pressed firm-yet-forgiving, so leaves flake off cleanly. In the cup it gives a dark ruby-red liquor with a clear aged aroma and a thick, smooth, almost velvety body.
Use about 8g in a clay teapot with 100°C water. Always rinse the leaves once and discard the first pour, then begin at ~15 seconds and extend; a well-stored cake carries fifteen or more infusions.
A confident introduction to the warm, grounding world of aged pu-erh.
